Algorithms in dermatoscopy are used to help assess the probability of a pigmented lesion being a melanoma. The terms sensitivity and specificity are used to give a measure of how accurate an algorithm is at picking up a potential melanoma. Sensitivity measures whether it picks up all potential melanomas and specificity measures whether it picks up anything else and calls it melanoma.
In this Teaching case we will discuss the ABCD rule, The Menzies method, The 3 point checklist, The 7 point checklist, Pattern analysis and the CASH algorithms. Harald Kittler's method will be assigned a separate Teaching Case hopefully done by Harald!
Question: These two lesions may look similar clinically but under the dermatoscope they are obviously completely different. What are they?
